This is a declaration of war on Gibson, Fender, and all other big-boys of the Guitar World.
My name is Michael Ambrose.
Just to get it out there, before someone tries to dig for a bias or an ulterior motive, I have a small private repair and custom shop. I am not open to the public, and I only take on work from friends and friends of friends. I make limited quantities of Danelectro-inspired guitars. I first contemplated starting a blog like this when I began to notice the large number of Fender Highway One and Gibson Faded guitars coming into my shop, all with the same problems. As these guitars continued to come in, I became more and more appalled with the quality of guitar being put out by these companies I had admired for so long. I had to wonder... how could a company like Gibson, which prides itself on its 100+ year history of fine luthiery and superb craftsmanship, be putting out such utterly dreadful guitars?
The average musician is being lied to, and the ignorant musician is being taken advantage of.
It is my hope through this blog to educate potential musician-consumers on the problems of the mass-market guitar business.
I end my first post with a very important rule I learned many years ago:
If you know your tone, and you know exactly what you want, never pay a corporation for something that came off an assembly line when you can find a local private luthier to give you exactly what you want for a fraction of the Big Box cost (and with ten times the quality and accuracy).
More later.
